The Lords of the Night were policemen and judges in the Venetian Republic.
Prison staff will take you on an authentic tour of the Prison Palace with cramped cells, a courtroom and gruesome torture chambers with real instruments of torture and justice. Casanova himself was arrested and imprisoned here by the Lords of the Night!
The Palace is 'inhabited' by life-size figures of the Lords of the Night, prisoners, judges, lawyers and all the characters working in the prisons, drawn and recreated from ancient manuscripts.
The building houses one of the first prisons in Europe, dating back to 1500.
Admire the authentic graffiti left by inmates and discover Casanova's exciting escape: listen to the story of when he managed to escape, his spectacular jailbreak from the unforgiving prisons of Venice is still an epic display of audacity and genius unparalleled in history!
